Well I guess I've got my work cut out for me since I have had no permanent help in Nursery lately. I'm glad that many of the parents did volunteer to stay with their kids. That sure helped a lot!
Today, we had 8 kids, one being new. Thank goodness her parents didn't mind staying and helped with a lot of the little tasks. I was a bit overwhelmed; it didn't help that my brain wasn't working and couldn't remember most of the typically requested songs! Yikes!
Overall, we had a great lesson, snack and playtime. Whew! My ward's cutie crew is the greatest!

The Cutie Crew Tours Dallas!
... with the help of the Lap Bus!
We only had four children today in Nursery but boy, were they awake! They were ready for anything and welcomed the two great ladies who helped me, Shari and Anna! (You both rock!)
They ate all the snacks, lesson, songs and games we did, but it wasn't enough. They even chased each other and screamed with delight on practically everything! You know that young children love to be entertained so I made up the Lap Bus!
Using my lap as the bus, and with some key rattle, we went to the Dallas Aquarium, Zoo, Arboretum, and even McDonald's for lunch! Anna even gave them a tour on her Lap Jeep to other various places including the library where they got books on helping to clean up the toys!
It was so much fun! I so love being in the Nursery; seeing the littlest ones learn and enjoy themselves is its own reward. Any Nursery leader can see that. I'm just grateful that I do, too!
We started the lesson with Shari reading from the scriptures after our own Cutie Crew member, Madeline said the prayer, I gave the lesson and we ended the class with Red Light/Green Light with Anna. You gotta love Nursery! The kids are just our source of energy! Yeah!
At home, we had the funnest lunch as our own Mr. Man got us laughing over how to teach our children to help me distract other shoppers to secure the great deals. His best one for 90% off deals was to have our children go up to the other women and ask, "Are you my mommy?" LOL
L-Infinity said, "I would so do that!" while laughing her head off and J-Pony said, "If she does it, I'll do it, too so mommy can get her great deals!" I-Dude said, "Me, too. No, I won't..."
There's only one other thing I'm waiting for to go down at least 60% off. I'll tell you when I get it, IF I get it. It hasn't broken over 55% off yet since I saw it after Christmas, so I'm trying to be really patient! ;-)

"Bonk, Owie, Waaaahhh!" Nursery Day
As you can glean from you the title, we had an adventurous Sabbath in the Nursery. Our leader just gave birth a few days ago, so it was just us two assistants. No problem, we only had 6 children and they know us. Everything was going great until playtime, the last 45 minutes of the class...
A three year old from the neighboring class decided that he wanted to play with toys instead so he slammed open the connecting door and the folding table we had to keep it closed fell over like a leaf and even though I caught the door and saved one of the kids from being hit, one did get clipped on the neck. She seemed fine and I took her to her mom, but the domino effect took place.
Someone from the bishopric needed my co-assistant and got her at 10 minutes to quitting time. But before that, I had to help one of the little girls from the neighboring class in the potty. All the while, two kids fought over a toy and one of them couldn't recover from the loss of the toy and cried for 10 minutes straight; bless his heart... He wanted Mommy but still played "Ring Around the Rosie, (wahhhh) a pocket full of posies (I'ant Mommy and Daaaaaaaaddy!)
Then as if things are not stressful enough, the only girl left in the room got on a metal folding chair just seconds after I threw something away and my vision was obscured by the not so folded accordion separator wall and heard this "thump" and a squeal. I see her behind the chair, good thing she didn't hit the wall with her head as she has done this before and hit the wall head first I heard from her dad after I told him what happened. I couldn't fold the chair, so I put it up against the wall before he came so he had to make sure that she didn't hit her head.
As Charlie said, I had an adventurous time in Nursery today... How was your Sunday?

Day 33
Love Completes Each Other
"Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone?"
Ecclesiastes 4:11 KJV
DARE:
Recognize that your spouse is integral to your future success. Let them know today that you desire to include them in your upcoming decisions, and that you need their perspective and counsel. If you have ignored their input in the past, admit your oversight and ask them to forgive you.
What I Did:
We decided that since we can never afford our original wedding china but we do want to have it for our 15th or 20th wedding anniversary, we decided that we would scour ebay for a pattern we can agree on. Since dinnerware collecting has been my thing, I have always made the decisions on it. But now that Charlie's been giving me pointers on how to photograph the table, and which items go together, we consult on it together. Like my latest find in Tuesday Morning, he's known about them since I first saw them and he has encouraged me to wait for the price that we can truly afford. I'm glad I listened...

"Thankful for my Eyes"
I was asked to teach the lesson today in Nursery about Heavenly Father's plan for us. If you've ever handled, owned, borrowed or looked up the Primary Lesson manual, you'd remember just how wide the reach is in teaching 18 month-old "newbies" to 3 year-old "seniors".
It was a pretty hard lesson to dissect. The choices scattered in my head! "Do I go with the doll recommendation? (It might incite an "I want it" riot) Do I go and infuse the lesson with the all-familiar I am a child of God? (I might confuse the audience with downtime) Do I go with the recommended scripture verses? (Might be too way over their heads)"
You can see my dilemma... But as I looked over my printout, I couldn't help but have that automatic prayer in my heart spit out an SOS to our dear "'ole Dad" and ask HIM for some directions to teach all that would be there today. (I don't do so well with teaching; it makes you wonder why I took up Elementary Education-well, me, too!)
I wanted to encompass all of the above choices but without any of the pressures of structured teaching- I was going for fun! Immediately, I spotted these sure-fire "attention grabbers" that even I couldn't stop looking at them. One of them was the poem, "I am Thankful for my Eyes". While handing the children out their coloring sheets of a boy/girl, depending on if they are a boy or a girl, I told them that no matter what they look like, their color, their style, Heavenly Father loves them. And guess what happened? I felt the proof of that statement! It gave me the confidence to sequentially do the rest of the lessons through two more interactive poems involving Heavenly Father letting us live here with our parents and how God loves us because He created the moon and the sun.
Do I know if the children felt the impact of the lesson? I can only hope so; but I certainly did and I certainly felt His love for all the precious children that were in that room today... I am thankful for my eyes that I was able to see their faces light up when we held hands and made moon and sun imitations.
All I know is, each child knew they were a child of God, that He loves them and that they love Him back. It trumped "Wheels on the bus..." by far. I am also thankful for their parents that help them each day to know that basic but powerful fact...
